Parent Volunteers

Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education and get to know the local school community. The department always welcomes volunteers. Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.

As a parent, carer or close relative of a student, you likely enter schools regularly. Depending on the reason for your visit, you may need to check-in and be screened by school staff.

Please see the Accessing schools as a parent, carer or close relative of a student webpage to understand what you need to do and when you need to do it.

When you are ready to volunteer at the school please follow the digital screening process steps :

  1. Email the school requesting the digital declaration.
  2. We will send you an invitation via email to complete an online screening request.
  3. You may be asked for your WWCC details but, if you attend school as a normal parent volunteer, this field is optional
  4. Parents or close relatives who volunteer at their child’s school are usually exempt from requiring a WWCC clearance. Though, providing a WWCC means you can volunteer in more roles, such as overnight excursions, transporting students to school events, formal mentoring programs or providing personal care services to children with disabilities.
  5. You will receive an email confirming the completion of the form, and if relevant, any next steps.
  6. Next time you visit our school, you can present a photo ID to finalise the screening process.
