Community involvement
Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) or by volunteering at our school. Your time and support help make our school a better place for everyone.
Volunteer at our school
Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your school community.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- assisting in the classrooms or library
- volunteering on sports days and other school events
- assisting on excursions
- helping in the canteen/tuckshop
- getting involved in the P&C
As a parent/carer of a student, depending on the reason for your visit, you may need to check-in and be screened by school staff.
Please see the Accessing schools as a parent, carer or close relative of a student webpage to understand what you need to do and when you need to do it.
When you are ready to volunteer at the school please follow the digital screening process steps :
- Email the school requesting the digital declaration.
- We will send you an invitation via email to complete an online screening request.
- You may be asked for your WWCC details but if you attend school as a normal parent volunteer, this field is optional
- Parents or close relatives who volunteer at their child’s school are usually exempt from requiring a WWCC clearance. Though providing a WWCC means you can volunteer in more roles, such as overnight excursions, transporting students to school events, formal mentoring programs.
- You will receive an email confirming the completion of the form, and if relevant, any next steps.
- Next time you visit our school, you can present a photo ID to finalise the screening process.
Our P&C is a group of parents, carers and school community members. They assist with school planning, fundraising, events and volunteering. Our P&C works in partnership with our school to promote the interests of our school community. Specifically we:
- Assist with the funding of key teaching and learning resources
- Coordinate social and fundraising events throughout the year
- Organise Working Bees to maintain and landscape the school gardens
- Manage the Canteen/Tuck Shop and Uniform Shop
Join our P&C
Joining the P&C is a great way to meet other parents/carers, get involved and contribute to our school community.
To join our P&C, complete the online P&C membership form or contact us today.
About Your P&C
The mission of the Dem P&C (Parents and Citizens Association) as per our Constitution is:
- to promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co-operation; and
- to assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and in promoting the recreation and welfare of the students at the school.
The Dem P&C is an incorporated P&C Association, a registered charity and a member of the Northern Sydney District Council of P&C Associations, as well as the NSW P&C Federation.
You can contact The Dem P&C by email at president@thedempc.com.au.
P&C meetings
The P&C usually holds its meetings on the second Wednesday evening of each month. Please see the Calendar in School Bytes
P&C meetings are held virtually on Google Meet. Video meeting link can be found in School Stream.
Meetings are a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a wonderful opportunity to meet key school executives and find out what is planned for the year. We welcome all parents and carers to attend and participate.
Please note that the meeting minutes aim to follow the NSW P&C Federation guidelines to include formal motions and their results (which covers the spending of all P&C funds) for governance and audit purposes, but not details of discussions.
Annual P&C and School events
Volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved in our school community, meet other parents, and make a real difference in our children's experiences while at school.
To ensure that volunteering is shared fairly across the year, we allocate one event to each year group. This helps spread the workload and gives everyone the chance to get involved.
- Year 5 - Mothers & Carers Day Breakfast Friday 9th May
- Year 4 - Spellathon Monday 26th May
- Year 1 - Fathers & Carers Breakfast Friday 5th September
- Kindergarten - Grandparents & Special Friends morning tea Friday 24th October
- Years 2 & 3 - Annual Disco Friday 14th November
