K-2 Choir

The NSDS K-2 Choir is filled with enthusiastic and dedicated children from Kindergarten through to Year 2. The students meet weekly for rehearsals to strengthen their voices, begin early performance techniques and learn both popular and classic songs. Children have opportunities throughout the year to perform at both in school and out of school events. Last year the K-2 Choir performed a series of songs at the Crows Nest Fair which was a delightful day! Children meet together to sing, have fun and encourage each other to do their best. In the words of Ella Fitzgerald, "the only thing better than singing is more singing!"

Junior Choir

The Junior Choir brings together Year 3 and 4 enthusiastic singers who love to perform. The students rehearse twice a week for the exciting Ryde School Spectacular combined choirs at the Opera House each year. The choir takes part in the celebration of exceptional vocal, musical and dance talent involving over 900 talented students from across 30 different schools in the Sydney region. The Junior Choir also performs at school assemblies and events.

Senior Choir

The Senior Choir at NSDS is comprised of Year 5 and 6 students with rehearsals held at lunchtimes. As students reach this upper level of choir, they are split into altos and sopranos and are taught how to sing in 2-part harmony. The Senior Choir has opportunities to perform in front of an audience at events such as the 3-6 assembly and the Festival of the Arts. Last year, the senior choir participated in the Festival of Choral Music and had the opportunity to perform at the Sydney Opera House. This year, the Senior Choir will be singing in yet another very exciting event with other schools in NSW in the charity concert Celebration Sing Out, which will take place at Town Hall in Term 4.

Recorder Group

The recorder group rehearses together weekly to learn a challenging repertoire of new, cinematic compositions and traditional songs. Students from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the fantastic opportunity to perform in the magnificent concert hall at the Sydney Opera House for the Festival of Instrumental Music. They join over a thousand students in an incredible musical experience involving the strings, orchestra, electric guitar, percussion, choir and of course hundreds of recorders. The recorder group also performs at school events and in the Festival of the Arts.
